Much like Tilted Arc by Richard Serra, I decided to design a structure that would force the viewer to walk around it. I also went with the idea of trying to create a literal "room with a view". With the wall curving away from the water, it creates that feeling of being inside once in between it and the shoreline. The width and height (10ft), preventing looking over or around, also allows an excluded feeling when on the outside, but yet a huge and expanded room with a vast view once on the inside. The simplicity of the piece was also a strong point.
Inspirational Artist/Work
My inspirational artist was Richard Serra. Although, it was mainly just his Tilted Arc piece. With the Tilted Arc, he forced the workers in the adjacent building to walk around it which provoked a lot of feelings, mostly negative. Some considered it art and some did not, I do. I used his concept in my piece and try create the same feelings but in a positive way.

Brainstorming
Process/Experimentation
1.) Cutting the Shapes - once I had the materials, I began to cut the cardboard into abstract shapes to create the sand.
2.) Gluing the Sand - once the abstract pieces were cut, I glued them on top of one another from smallest to largest to create a form for the sand.
3.) Soaking the Wall - while I waited for the glue to dry, I placed the wall into a bowl full of water to soak the wood and allow it to curve. I did this for roughly 30 minutes.

4.) Gluing the Tree - now that the glue on the sand is dry, I can add ue to the bottom of some fake scaled down trees and place towards the rear of the sand to create a living atomosphere and make it more real.
5.) Adding Slight Detail - I didn't feel right with leaving the base of the trees as circles, so I added on some roots driving into the ground.
6.) Creating the Sand - along with the details, I used a thin sharpie and used a stippling effect to give some texture to the sand as if they were a few dark grains.
7.) Adding More Detail - last part of using sharpie was to create some dirt/grassy area. This was also for more realism sense there wouldn't be sand growing from sand. Also, I purposely made the grass and dirt not green because of the colors of the tree.
8.) Placing the Wall - with a thin line of glue on the base, I placed the wall closer towars the water and held it until it dried.

Reflection
The first aspect that grabs my attention is the craftmanship. I feel as if the glue is a bit sloppy and the sharpie parts are also a bit sloppy. I think I did well on the wall itself and the overall idea. I accurately and effectively created the feeling of a "room with a view" concept clearly. The simplicity is also a big positive aspect as well.
